Well before Andy Warhol’s rise to the pinnacle of Pop Art, he created and exhibited seductive drawings celebrating male beauty. Andy Warhol Love, Sex, & Desire: Drawings 1950-1962 features over three hundred drawings rendered primarily in ink on paper portraying young men, many of them nude, some sexually charged, and occasionally adorned with whimsical black hearts and delightful embellishments. They lounge or preen, proud of or even bored by their beauty, while the artist sketches them, rapt. They rarely engage with their keen observer, and likewise Warhol’s focus is on their form, their erotic qualities, and unbridled sexuality. Warhol was already a booming commercial illustrator when he exhibited studies from this body of work at the Bodley Gallery on New York’s Upper East Side in 1956.He mistakenly saw these illustrations as his way of breaking into the New York art scene, underestimating the pervading homophobia of the time. While he never saw through his plan to publish the drawings as a monograph, he did produce more than a thousand elegant, seemingly effortless drawings from life. A vociferous supporter and developer of Darwin’s theories of evolution, he denounced religious dogma, authored philosophical treatises, gained a doctorate in zoology, and coined scientific terms which have passed into common usage, including ecology, phylum, and stem cell.
At the heart of Haeckel’s colossal legacy was the motivation not only to discover but also to explain. To do this, he created hundreds of detailed drawings, watercolors, and sketches of his findings which he published in successive volumes, including several marine organism collections and the majestic Kunstformen der Natur (Art Forms in Nature), which could serve as the cornerstone of Haeckel’s entire life project. Like a meticulous visual encyclopedia of living things, Haeckel’s work was as remarkable for its graphic precision and meticulous shading as for its understanding of organic evolution. Starting out as a print designer for publisher Hieronymus Cock, Bruegel produced numerous print series that were distributed throughout Europe. These depicted vices and virtues alongside jolly peasant festivals and sweeping landscape panoramas. He then increasingly turned to painting, working for the cultural elite of Antwerp and Brussels. Rather than idealizing reality, he bravely confronted the issues of his day, addressing the horrors of religious warfare and taking a critical stand against the institution of the Church. To this end, Bruegel developed his own pictorial language of dissidence, lacing innocuous everyday scenes with subliminal statements in order to escape repercussions.

The monumental monograph devoted to the artistic duo - KwieKulik (Zofia Kulik and Przemysław Kwiek) includes an outline of the artists' activities from the 1960s to 1988 (the period of their joint practice) as well as documentation of the Studio of Activities, Documentation and Propagation (PDDiU) run by the artists. To provide a better understanding of the context of the epoch, it also comprises - KwieKulik's source materials and dictionaries: of concepts used by the artists and language characteristic of the described epoch. On their part, the authors were invited to contribute essays in an attempt to outline new interpretative perspectives for Zofia Kulik's and Przemysław Kwiek's oeuvre.
The monograph not only delivers unique source materials but provides extensive coverage of the artists' activities and a thorough understanding of the context. In this regard, the book highlights an essential methodological issue: the interpretation of the artists' activities against the backdrop of the epoch. This pertains especially to engaged art, reacting to the challenges of its times, which - KwieKulik's practice undoubtedly was. Maria Anna Potocka – filozof sztuki, dyrektor Muzeum Sztuki Współczesnej w Krakowie MOCAK, była założycielką czterech galerii autorskich (1972–2010).
