The first Polish translation of Peter Kivy’s The Sound Sentiment (1989), a classic of the 20th century musical aesthetics, which contains the original version of The Corded Shell (1980) and additional chapters written in response to the debate concerning emotionalism. The author explores music expression and the problems related to its understanding, with reference to philosophy, history of music and musicology. Kivy advocates music cognitivism, which involves recognizing emotions in music without arousing emotions in the audience and without attributing emotions to the composer.

Na Ziemi Lubuskiej się urodziła, przeżyła młodość. Kilka lat po studiach opuściła rodzinne strony, związała się z ziemią kielecką, jej Uniwersytetem, weszła w inne środowisko społeczno-kulturowe. Pisząc swą książkę, wraca myślami do Ziemi Lubuskiej, emocjonalnie kreuje obraz imponującego życia kulturalnego i literackiego, tworzącego się od 1945 roku przez ludzi twórczych, artystów, dziennikarzy przybyłych na Ziemie Zachodnie, w różnym czasie na nich osiadłych.
Pandemia zaktualizowała problemy, o których sądziliśmy, że przeszły już do przeszłości. Ukazała kruchość naszej egzystencji i ułudę bezpieczeństwa, które gwarantuje technologia. Zapewne szereg procesów, które zachodzą w czasie pandemii, będzie miało znaczący wpływ na naszą przyszłość. Zdominowanie dyskursu o pandemii przez nauki medyczne, co jest zrozumiałe w świetle zagrożenia zdrowia i życia, jakie ona ze sobą niesie, stwarza wrażenie, że humanistyka jest bezradna. Niniejszą książką próbujemy temu zaprzeczyć; na pracę składają się teksty, które z pozycji humanistyki przedstawiają i interpretują przykłady kulturowych reakcji na pandemię covid-19. Nie jest to zatem praca o wirusie i chorobie, którą wywołuje a raczej zbiór relacji na temat człowieka i jego kultury rozumianej jako narzędzie oswajania z tym co nowe, inne i często (jak w tym wypadku) przerażające.

The Enlightenment is one of the formative periods of Western history, yet more than 300 years after it began, it remains controversial.
