Freedom or Death. Polish Philhellenes and the Greek Uprising of 1821. Published on the Bicentenary of the Greek Revolution
The publication sets new directions in the research on Polish Philhellenism, in particular in two areas: gaining thorough knowledge of the Poles supporting Greek struggle for independence and the coverage it received in Polish press. The articles of the renowned experts on the subject are the introduction to the issue of Polish Philhellenism, they also concentrate on reconstructing biographies of the Polish participants in the Greek uprising and the interest in modern Greek songs the Poles have developed.

Karl Dedecius’ Polish Library: Project – Process – Significance
The monograph discusses the literary, scholarly and publishing endeavour that was the so-called Polnische Bibliothek (Polish Library) edited by Karl Dedecius, which was issued between 1982 and 2000 by Suhrkamp Verlag in Frankfurt am Main with financing from the Robert Bosch Foundation (Robert Bosch Stiftung). This impressive undertaking had immense significance for the cultural transfer between Poland and Germany (as well as other German-speaking states), for reconciliation through books, and for the strengthening of European unity following deep (post-)war divisions.

An Order Obsession. German Architects’ Plans in Occupied Poland 1939–1945
The author explores the activities of German spatial and urban planners, architects and interior designers as well as their “order obsession”, which was to be used in the Germanisation of the newly subjugated territories. He provides numerous examples of projects and realisations which have not been discussed before in the subject literature. He analyses the moral aspects of this ordering work and the active engagement in occupation policy and the Holocaust of those implementing it. He follows the fates of particular specialists during and after the war.

Architecture and Spatial Planning of Universities from the Middle Ages to the Mid-19th Century
The author presents architectural and spatial changes of university complexes in Europe and North America, from the Middle Ages, when colleges used mainly monastic designs, until the mid-19th century, when university architecture became an embodiment of the political order introduced after the Napoleonic wars and the ambition of new national states. She shows the most important buildings and architectural complexes and describes major cultural transformations leading to the changes in the form of college buildings.

The Avant-garde Photographic Plate. Polish Photography Between the Wars
The author gives a critical analysis of the avant-garde paradigm with reference to Polish photography, reconstructs the information concerning marginalized or forgotten photographic practices in Poland between the wars, and attempts to explore the existing boundaries of Polish avant-garde photography in a critical way.
Autorzy przedstawiają wybrane efekty wieloletniego projektu badań stosowanych „Ostrołęckie obserwatorium oświatowe” realizowanego na potrzeby lokalnej polityki oświatowej. Projekt ten jest elementem współpracy zainicjowanej w 2019 roku przez Prezydenta Ostrołęki i Wydział Pedagogiczny Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego. W omawianych badaniach uwzględniono stan wiedzy naukowej w zakresie analizowanych zjawisk i wykorzystano metody badań naukowych, jednak ich celem nie jest rozwój teorii, lecz ewaluacja ex-ante i rozwiązywanie konkretnych problemów. Projekt stanowi przykład badań stosowanych zgodnych z podejściem evidence-based policy, tzn. wykorzystania wyników badań oświatowych w tworzeniu skutecznej lokalnej polityki edukacyjnej.

An Education Observatory in Ostrołęka – Education Research Supporting Local Policy
The authors present the results of “An Education Observatory in Ostrołęka”, a long-standing applied research project aimed at local education needs. The discussed material refers to the current state of scientific knowledge about the analysed phenomena and uses scientific research methods, which do not aim at developing theory, but evaluate ex-ante and solve particular problems. The project is an example of the evidence-based policy research, i.e. the use of education research results in creating effective local education policy.

A Plein Air Revolution in the 18th Century? Reports on the Birth of Modern Landscape
An unconventional look at the Enlightenment, the beginnings of modern thought on nature and discovery journeys in Europe and beyond. The author brings to light little known facts from the history of art education, scientific exploration of mountains, glaciers and distant seas in the 18th century. He analyses works and attitudes of renowned artists (Goethe, Turner), as well as completely forgotten painters and graphic artists from numerous countries. He brings to light curiosities in the history of culture and makes them meaningful signs of changes in mentality and artistic creation (e.g. the first glacier explorations, onboard painters on captain Cook’s ships, early “out of town excursions” with a sketchbook).

A Turn Towards Europe: Transformations of the Public Sphere in Real Socialism 1975-1989
In the presented book Christian Domnitz analyses political journalism in the Polish People’s Republic, German Democratic Republic and Czechoslovakia from the signature of the CSCE Final Act in Helsinki in 1975 to the fall of communism in 1989. Comparing the narratives of European communist parties and the underground press, he explains the meaning of different conceptions of Europe. He also shows their transformations, rivalry between them and the role of individual journalists.

Never at Home. The Sociology of Returns to the Own Group After the Fall of the USSR on the Example of the Polish Community in Kazakhstan Settling Down in Russia, Germany and Poland Within Governmental Repatriation Systems
The book describes the local community of the descendants of the Poles who, in 1936, were forced to relocate from the Ukrainian SSR to Northern Kazakhstan. After the fall of the USSR, when the Polish political elites did not take effective steps, the so-called Polish spiecpieresieleńcy made various attempts to repatriate not only within the Polish, but also Russian and German repatriation systems. The multimillion scale and the wide geographical range of the process itself give the author grounds for claiming that the sociology of returns to the own group against the background of other migration directions was clearly distinct.

The book analyses the literary description of the cosmos in Edward Stachura’s works. It emerges from scientific knowledge, but is strongly imbued with metaphysical and anthropological senses. In poet’s works celestial bodies are an important element of the mythical world structure, linked to poeticizing reality by the protagonist who – observing the sky and flaunting his astronomical knowledge – is, at the same time, searching for sacrum in nature. The Musical Adventures of Folk Taste. Polish Popular Music in Society After 1956
The author discusses the problem of the so-called low circulation of contemporary Polish popular music (music released on flexi discs, wedding music, a broad range of amateur music production, football chants, amateur rock music). He analyses music tastes of the Polish working class and the social functioning of genres and styles of music, characteristic of these tastes, reflecting on the crucial moments in cultural policy and the most important turning points in history: “Polish thaw” in 1956, the consequences of the 1968 events, the indigenous model of mass culture in the 1970s, the situation after the martial law and the transformation of the political system in 1989.

The book is an attempt to obtain the interdisciplinary insight into the musical culture of the 20th and 21st centuries through the prism of "acoustic wallpaper". The author indicates the connections between functional concepts, in which background music is an instrument of social influence (Muzak and audiomarketing), and artistic concepts (Erik Satie and musique d'ameublement, Brian Eno and ambient music) intended to create a neutral background filling the public space. She deals with the issues of acoustic engineering in the public space, combining three basic research perspectives: musicological, psychological and marketing, taking into account theoretical, historical and empirical approaches.
