Oddaję czytelnikom moją piętnastą książkę. Składa się ona z sześciu opowieści z mojego życia. Ta książka jest nieco inna niż większość poprzednich, bo nie dotyczy bezpośrednio polityki. Oczywiście całkiem polityki w moim życiu wyeliminować się nie da, bo przecież nie żyłem w politycznej próżni, a więc parę razy polityka wlazła w moje życie brutalnie, z butami. Jednak tym razem koncentruję się głównie na osobistych przeżyciach, a nie na historii.
Sporą część książki zajmuje tematyka górska, co nie powinno dziwić, bo 50 lat z moich dziejów związane było bardzo mocno z alpinizmem. Nie jest to jednak książka o alpinizmie, bo choć sporo jest tu opisów technicznych, to nie o nie tu chodzi.
Pierwsza opowieść, „Sześć razy na minutę”, opowiada o przeżyciach uczestników akcji ratunkowych, które nie są romantyczną przygodą. To naprawdę krew, pot i łzy. A na końcu niekoniecznie ordery. Chcę przełamać pewien schemat, w którym ratownicy są zawsze szlachetni, ofiary zawsze same sobie winne, a publika klaszcze. Owszem, czasem tak jest, ale czasem bywa też tak, że nie wszyscy chcą pomóc, że niektórzy ludzie i różne siły chcą coś dla siebie ugrać, a ratujących spotyka hejt.
Opowieść „Krystyna w czerwonym płaszczyku” jest o wydarzeniach marca 68, ale opisanych inaczej, niż to zrobiłem w książce „Życie pod wiatr”. Sporo jest tak samo, bo dotyczy tych samych wydarzeń, ale tym razem opis jest bardziej osobisty. To los dziewiętnastolatka, który traci przez politykę swoją pierwszą w życiu miłość i od razu zderza się ze światem brutalnym, skutkującym śmiercią najbliższej osoby.
Nie chcę tu streszczać książki, ale wspomnę jeszcze o opowieści „Jedzie się” opisującej szalony czas wielkich przemian politycznych i społecznych początku lat 90–tych dwudziestego wieku. Lat, które mój nieżyjący już przyjaciel Anatol Lawina określił jako „taniec wariatów na ruchomych piaskach”. Rzeczywiście, szoferowanie ciężarówkami w fatalnym stanie technicznym po drogach w jeszcze gorszym stanie technicznym, z niewydolną i skorumpowaną policją, ale za to z bardzo skutecznym bandytyzmem drogowym, to było naprawdę coś!
Całe moje życie uzasadnia tytuł: „W poszukiwaniu guza”. Rzeczywiście, jakimś sposobem nie mogłem spokojne chodzić na ósmą do pracy, jeść obiadu z rodziną, a w niedzielę chodzić z żoną do kina, tylko zawsze pakowałem się w kłopoty. Ale przynajmniej mam co wspominać.
